Versailles

Salut, tous!
We had today off for Armistice Day, so I decided to take advantage of the free time and return to Versailles.  I visited the famous chateau when I was here with high school, of course, but I really only remembered la Galerie des Glaces, i.e. the Hall of Mirrors, and the little bit of the gardens that we'd had the time to see.  It was great to be back!  It's only a short train ride out of Paris, less than an hour, and the town of Versailles is cute, too.  I went with my friend Anna, who had never been, and we explored the town a bit after we saw the palace.  Of course, we didn't see nearly all of it, because it's huge (remember, Louis XIV had it built because the Louvre was too small), and I don't think it's all open to the public, anyway.  It wasn't the best day for being out and about, weather-wise; suddenly, it's cold!  And foggy!  And COLD.  But even so, it was a lot of fun to be back at Versailles.

The chateau is in the background, really!

There was so much good ceiling art!

And enough gold to pull us all out of the recession!

La Galerie des Glaces!  The Treaty of Versailles was signed here.

They had this little display commemorating the signing.

So many paintings!
What a ceiling!

In part of the palace, they had this weird mix of contemporary furniture.

I'm not sure what's going on in that photo...

Me and Anna in the gardens--it was cold!
